What Does a Sponsor Do?

A Confirmation Sponsor serves as a role model for your faith. He/She is a companion on your faith journey, who supports you in prayer and in your search for the Holy Spirit. Your sponsor witnesses for you before the entire Church, standing with you as you are confirmed. He/She proclaims by that gesture that you are ready and willing to accept the responsibility and privileges of being an initiated member of the Catholic community.


All candidates/students are required to have a Confirmation Sponsor.  An appropriate sponsor must be the following:

 

1. At least 16 years old.
2. A fully initiated Catholic and practicing member of the Church.
3. Lives a Catholic way of life, worship and service.
4. Someone other than your parent


Other Consideration:

*Lives close enough to you, so he/she can be involved with your preparation including a retreat.

*Someone you feel comfortable with and you can relate to.

*Mature enough to offer you spiritual guidance and be a friend for the journey
